The first step in learning how to play Teen Patti is of course to familiarize yourself with the rules. Understanding the rules of basic poker is beneficial, and guarantees an easy learning curve for long time players. Teen Patti follows the same line of card play as normal poker, which consists of dealing, betting and showdown. Teen Patti rules are therefore easy to follow and easy to learn even for new poker players. It’s good to remember that the main difference when playing this poker game are the way the hands are formed, how the betting works and what happens at the showdown.

The game starts by creating the pot, this means taking an agreed stake from each player. This pot then forms the minimum bet that is used every round. The dealer is chosen randomly, and the next step is for him to deal three cards to each player, as per normal the direction of deal is counter-clockwise. All cards are dealt face down and players cannot look at them. After the cards are dealt the player left of the dealer will place the first bet. If the player does not want to place a bet he can fold, and this also means losing all money already placed in the pot. Once the amount is set the first player can play his turn and the following players will follow the same procedure at their turn. 

After the bet is paid, which at the start is the minimum bet, the first decision the player needs to make is if he wants to see his card or not. If the player chooses to look at his card he has to pay a higher stake in all rounds. A player who has looked at his cards is called a seen player. If the player decides not to look at his cards he is called blind. The main difference to normal poker comes in the form of betting, and whether or not you decide to look at your cards has an effect on how much you pay in each betting round. Of course, once again, there is a wide variety of rules with different casinos but the basic idea is that if the player before you is seen you can match half to whole of his bet. If the payer before you is playing blind you must match the whole stake or double it. It is important to remember that the current stake, which is the money you are paying, is what the previous player bet.

The game proceeds like this with increased betting either driving players to show their cards or folding. The showdown however cannot start until there are no more than two players left. Players can either drop off themselves, by folding, or by having a sideshow with another player once they have checked their cards. You can ask for a sideshow with the player before you in case both of you are playing as seen and there are one more other players still in the game. The previous player can accept or decline the request. If he accepts the player with the higher hand stays in the game. However, if the hands are equal the player who asked for the sideshow automatically folds.

If all except one player fold he will automatically win any and all money in the pot. The game continues this way until only two players are left for the showdown, at which point either player can ask for a show. This means paying a varying bet to the pot, depending if you are still playing blind, and then comparing the cards. Winning player is of course the one with the higher hand, and he takes the full pot after which a new round begins.
